Cursing and much stronger words as I was indulging in the black art of wheel building. Managed to get it laced, which took 2 false starts and just under an hour so pleased with that. Have tensioned the spokes evenly but know the wheel is way out but till I get my el cheapo wheel jig and Var dishing tool I'm stuck :( Might try and do it in the frame but know I'll do the left/right error no problem but the up and down will mean a LBS job. This is the first wheelbuild for me in 8/9 years with the skills picked up from C+ article. Have used an On One Inbred hub, screw on s/s disc and a Mavic 217 rim. I know the rim is many years old but why should I buy a new rim when I have a perfectly good one in the shed doing nothing?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

That was weird, thought the forum was addressing me personally.

    it is fun isnt it.

but i would not try chasing it. Unbuild it and start again, ok not the whole way just till the tension has really gone. then get it true and tensioned.

At the mo I'm happy to have got to the stage I'm at. No rush to finish the build. When I'm done will get LBS to give it the once over.

I laced my first wheel a couple of weeks ago, it took a tad longer than a couple of hours and that's as far as it's going to get :?
