If it's for riding in mud then my vote goes with the mud-X. Not ridden the Medusa, but have the 2.1 Bonty's on my Trek....0

forgot to say, the tyres will be mainly used on Cannock Chase, which is tends towards the muddy side of things, but with fireroads to get to the trailswhat are brakes for again0

MAXXIS MEDUSA XC always gets my vote around Cannock and even more so on natural loose trails. A copy of the cut down WetScream they dig in and clear like no other when the going gets muddy.
From the book:
Inspired by our professional European cross country racers for racing on muddy terrain. Small profile is lightweight and cuts through loose terrain, while the spiked tread pattern works to find traction through the mud. The widely spaced tread pattern resists packing by shedding mud and loose, damp soil. The Medusa performs well in mud and the low profile also makes it an excellent choice for lighter riders.0 -
Bonty Mud X's are the way forward, the 2" jobbies have a decent volume and grip really well in all conditions.
They clear mud really fast and being a dual compound 62a on the centre knobs and 50a on the outside you get the best of both worlds, fast rolling and plenty of grip when you lean over.
Bonus is they weigh around 500g's and are £19.99 each from JE James0 -
I use my Bonty's round the Chase.... no problems, plus they look double hard bastards!0

If you are to get the medusa's get the softer compound as the harder ones dont grip as well when its really slippery0

Got 2.1's on mine and really grippy round the chase, great as soon as it gets mushy, and still pretty damn good on dry hardpack stuff too
nowt really between em and the Mud X though, look and ride damn similar, even come up the same size fitted. Trailrakers are the other option, but find these square ones as grippy, but roll faster too0
