Hi
anyone any idea how late in the year you can expect to be able to cycle Tourmalet. I will be there mid October

  • Should be OK then but nothing's guaranteed - I climbed it in the last week of October 2005 and although it was baltic descending the La Mongie side it was warm enough to enjoy a drink outside a bar on the way down.

I remember being in the alps for the tour in july and the galibier was closed with snow ! Anything is possible !
  • We had very heavy snow the week ending the 28th of October this year and probably from that point onwards the Col would have been either closed of extremely difficult.

  • Tourmalet usually closes at the end of October and reopens at the middle/end of May.
paddy at www.velopeloton.com is a good source of info as he is right at the bottom of the climb.
