Have you tried Freeborn? Last I heard they'd nabbed the few remaining '08s from Spesh. Not sure if they've any large in stock though.

A lot of people have recommended changing the Eskar tyres but from my experience they are very good.
They are wide, have big air volume, give plenty of grip and are very light which means they roll extremely well and do not feel draggy

Other options from Maxxis are heavier, narrower (2.3 = 2.1) and provide less grip and confidence.

I've ditched my Minion 2.3's 42/60 and will using Eskars.

For downhill runs I will be using Specialized Clutch SX tyres which are a similar design to Eskars but have a deeper tread and softer rubber.

I was just about to go buy a Pitch Pro and now can't seem to find them anywhere, what's happened?

Any ideas on what else I could go for

You'd be better of starting a new thread, but take a look at a Kona Dawg. I test rode one at the weekend and it was perfect for me (6'4 and 16 stone). See if you can get a good deal on last year's models, some places were doing them for about a grand!

I just got a hope proII on mavic 719s from merlin. One thing to remember though is that apparently the deore cassette will wear into the freehub on a proII and cause problems. I had to get a PG80 cassette - think XT would be ok too.
