I overdid the tightening of one of the stem bolts. And it snapped leaving half of it stuck in the stem. I can't think of a way to remove it. Any ideas?

  • is there any of the bolt sticking out of the stem?? if so use a set of pliers etc to manually remove it,
if not use a small drill bit and drill from the bolt end side not the snapped side, hopefully it will loosen itself and come out with the drill - that on the basis its not the stem cap side??

If its a lightweight XC stem there is a very good chance you have damaged the stem overtightening the bolt.

Personally I would write it off to experience and buy a new stem

  • My dad has a set of tools (no idea what they're called) but they're specifically made for this reason.
You tap the little screw looking part into the stuck bolt (its very sharp and has a sort of thread on it). ten you grab the part with a pair of pliers and twist. the bolt is out :)
