Hey guy's.

Just built up an 06 Enduro and am just wondering how many spacers i should be running with a HT2 crankset to get the right chainline? I had 2 driveside on the 456 with a 68mm shell, and it currently has only one on either side with a 72mm shell. Is this right?

  • Park Tools BB spacer info

1 spacer driveside if the BB is 73mm.

Most manufacturers recommended having the BB faced too.

  • OK thanks mate. It's a second hand frame so has been faced already.
  • Another question. The frame came with a DHX 5 coil shock and a 400lb spring. The previous owner said he weighs 13st and found it slightly too hard, but i weigh 12st and think it could be a bit soft. What spring would you guy's recommend for me, as the TF Tuned spring calculator is confusing me even more saying i need a 315, which is softer still Am i right in thinking the shock stroke is 2.75 on an Enduro? Should i try increasing the pressure in the boost valve first?

Oh and by the way this is my first full suss, so am not sure what is normal or not at the moment  :?

    what sag do you get?

you want about 20% sag and no more than two turns on the collar.
Fox springs come in 50lbs steps.

  • It's a bit tricky to measure due to the coil being in the way. I reccon the sag is about 50mm of rear wheel travel. What is 20% of 150mm, my maths is crap and i can't even remember how to work it out on a calculator  Or would it be 20% of the shock stroke, which i am still not sure of yet. I don't know how many turns the previous owner wound on but i'v added nearly 2 turns on the collar myself, so it can't be right.

mesure the distance between the bolts and then again when on the bike.

or measure the distance and them mark up the 20% mark and see how it is.

  • Cheers mate, i'll have a go at that tomorrow. I haven't even ridden it off road yet so will see what it is like tomorrow before changing anything.

In the meantime is there any 12 stone 05-07 Enduro owners out there with a coil shock that can tell me what spring they are using?

it all depends on YOUR riding style. But it is basic math and the spring calcs do that. and give a realistic starting point.

  • The TF spring calculator is confusing though, as it is suggesting i get a softer spring than the one i already have :?

I'll take the tape measure on the ride with me tomorrow and get one of the guy's to do the measuring for me. I had a go myself earlier and i just can't do it on my own while sitting on the bike.
