Holme Moss Today

Having been used to riding up the Yorkshire side of Holme Moss for many years, today I tried something different. Sledging down it. It was cold and foggy up there this afternoon and even though the road was clear there was precious little traffic. One car at a time several minutes apart and the occasional gritter. The traffic's never like that when I ride up it.

The car park was still mostly six inches deep and the hillside was thigh deep in places, but we had the place to ourselves and me and my three year old son had a whale of a time sledging down it two up at high speed. Much more fun than riding up it!

Work again tomorrow

Less than ten years certainly. I remember getting waist deep walking on the Derbyshire side a few years back. Can't remember it lasting this long for a while though.

Sounds fun, but if my memory of Holme Moss serves me right - I'll stick with my bike, it's got brakes

A pair of size ten hiking boots make good brakes in deep snow. They don't work so well on a thin icy coating, however. Ask my wife, she was filming us from a point that she thought was safe and even though I told her we couldn't steer she totally failed to get out of the way and we totally failed to stop.
