I'm in the Epping Forest area with work (and me bike) and free from mid afternoon Wednesday 25th Feb.
A few quetions if you don't mind
1) Any local riders fancy letting me tag along?
2) What are the trails like?
3) Where's the best place to start?
4) Is their a signed trail?
5) Anyone got a (of a few) trail/s on GPS they can email over to me?

Epping will be a real mud bath at the moment. Most of the regular riders over there are riding elsewhere.
When it dries out there are plenty of trails and Carls Tea Hut at high Beech is where most of the rides start from.
Two groups who could be of help are www.eppinghardcru.co.uk and www.epping-forest-mtb.co.uk.Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -

Sure i don't mind...am about 30 minutes off, can meet you around Walthamstow
2) What are the trails like?
They're really quite muddy to begin with but then you really do get some crazy uphillsa nd downhills, but most of the time its trough the forest...
3) Where's the best place to start?
I think If you start at Wanstead Park and then head into Whipps Cross Park for a decent warm up. After that it's all epping forest! There's a car park if you keep going towards wood green, which leads into the begining of epping forest.
Trully though, Epping forest owns the 2 parks and the forest xD
4) Is their a signed trail?
not that i know of...i just keep riding on anything i fancy lol
5) Anyone got a (of a few) trail/s on GPS they can email over to me?
Sorry, my map are my eyes, and my GPS is .....well if i get tired and i see a road i see where it leads me xD0 -
I used to ride round here a lot when I lived down in Landan.
It's good but at this time of year is a gloopy muddy mess in places.
There are sign posts dotted around to tell people where they are or where to head.
I used to start from the Lippits Hill entrance to the wood. If I were you I'd just get an OS map of the forest and head out and enjoy it. It's the best way to find your way around or go with someone who knows their way. It's hardly the back of beyond and if you do get lost it's easy enough to head back to where you started.0 -
I agree with Donnie, if you just hea into the trails with whoever and keep going and going you keep finding these trails and even end up in places your really not supposed to be xD, which makes it even more fun lol.0

Epping right now is Pants
Was over there last week and even the fire roads was Iced all over
Not many people over there.
The soil in Epping has bad drainege problems and most of the streams/brookes
are full to the top.
Soil is like glue and yet the horses are still riding the trails and making it worse.
Off to Swinly soil better there better drainege and not so muddy.
Weather is ment to be nice tomorrow, But had bad snow Thursday night
Happy riding0 -
It'll be warm by the 25th and I'm used to mud, so no worries0
