I was just wondering if the standard CTC membership covered the insurance you need for AUK events? I'd rather just pay £4 than £6

Yes, if you're a CTC or BC member you put your membership number on the event entry form and you don't have to pay the AUK temporary membership fee.

See you on the Bryan Chapman Memorial in May then?

Nah, I'm doing a nice flat and (relatively) short one for my first Audax :D

Chepstow is a bit far to ride to the start too

PS I guess you send the organiser a cheque, rather than any other form of money?

Yes, in general, although paypal entry is creeping in for some events. It will be specified on the ride description on the AUK site www.audax.uk.net
  • I've been thinking of doing some Audax but wasn't sure if a race bike was suitable. I'm a bit concerned by the maximum speed. I know not everyone that rides Audax are over the hill (far from it) but wasn't sure if I'd fit in. I take it you're not put off by that Red.

PS Is it pronounced Odax or more French sounding as in Odo?? I think I read somewhere it came from latin...

The one I'm doing has 30Kph as the max speed, ~18.64mph is plenty enough for a max speed for me, especially over 135miles, and there's a few of us doing from the club and we are all pretty young. And I don't think most have mudguards anyway....I think Spanielsson is doing it on his nice new shiny Ti steed and that doesn't have guards......

It's a maximum average speed anyway, with a couple of cafe stops, it'll bring the average down anyway.
