A ride on the road that is, rather than turbo or MTB. I was fortunate enough to, stuck mainly to main roads, which was a good strategy as about eight miles from home on the way in I went down this country lane which started off a bit "iffy" then 3/4 of the way down it the last half mile was a pure sheet of ice and compressed snow. Which made the old ring twitch a bit.

Otherwise a crackin' ride first one on the road this month. :D

Yep! 60 miles round East lothain, me bottle froze! and a few icy patches across the road in a few places too but not as bad as you'res Tank. although had a similar 1/4 mile stretch coming off Lammermuirs last week, glad Kenny was in front, I think i'd av got off and walked if he was'nt. Today's got to have been the coldest yet, never got above freezing till lunchtime, gloves and bootee's tested to the max, although my bloody ears were soar after an hour1. Musselburgh Audax next week let's hope the temperature rises a bit for it.

Having upgraded my wheels to Dalkiia six-zeros with new Schwalbe Ultremo tyres i have been dying to get out since 1st January on my full carbon beast to give it a blast, unfortunately the weather has been freezing, the roads, cycle paths have been heavily gritted and you would be a fool to cycle in those conditions on a good bike. Thankfully i have been cycling to work on my Gazelle so 180Km per week at least keeps the legs in trim. My commute normally takes half an hour for 16 Kms. Since the new year it takes about 50 minutes.r Remember i live in the Netherlands. Unlike the UK the roads have been too heavily gritted, you cannot take corners, bends at speed and the amount of grit that i scrape off the bike every night has to be seen to be believed. At the beginning of December i fitted a new KMC chain, it,s almost worn out after about 1200 Kms.

  • Just 30 miles today.....found a decent set of hills around Dalkeith that weren't icy and did a load of hill repeats.

I'm with Holmeboy....it was bloody freezing up here till after lunch....biting wind in the face wasn't nice when I got speed up.
17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!

  • 100 miles :D Main roads only, but that's 2 x 100+ rides in the last 8 days, plus plenty of turbo hours. 8)

Nope - yet another weekend when weather, work, and odd jobs combined to wear me down to the point where I couldn't be bothered :-(

    Oh well, maybe next week.......

Yeah - no snow round here - bit cold mind you - but nothing too bad. Saw lots of bikes out - funny how cold weather attracts them !

Reddragon - did you get his autograph ?
  • Did 30 miles on saturday. Waited for things to get more sensible so set off around 2.30 pm in beautiful sunny conditions. It was great. only planned to go out for an hour but 2 h later when I passed the house and was starting to get cold decided not to spoil it by doing to much.

Even managed to cycle in to work this morning - 13 miles. It did n't feel like the -5dc predicted yesterday.

  • Did 20 miles yesterday at a staggering Ave of 14mph!! 15 miles were OKish but 5 miles were in the words of my ride budy "the most reckless thing we have ever done". Considering some of the things we have done i thought this a bit over the top but it was hairy.

One hill was particularly interesting. I lost traction going up half a dozen times on the heavy frost and slid with the camber inducing a couple of involuntary noises. Fortunately going up was the worst side (west facing at 11am) because the downhill is a short but very steep 3/4 mile stretch thst normally has us doing 35-40mph freewheeling the whole way!! Yesterday on the one time I looked at the computer I was just managing to hold 6mph!!!!!, but at least we had part cleared tire tracks to follow.

Still the positives were absolutelly no wind and quite sunny. One of those rides where you get home and think what a good ride it was even though you didnt think it at the time.
Cobbles are all very well but I'd rather be riding towards the South of France

Did 65 miles on Saturday on the club run, but nothing yesterday as I was at the TCR Show for the day. Weather has not been too bad here over the weekend, cold but mainly dry.

Sunday I managed 120·76km / 75miles and the last hour was a bit unfunny. Lots of snow (in fact, when I stopped at some lights I noticed that it had built up into a mound on my crotch, which was the reason my balls were freezing  ). Still, it felt good when it was all over and done with. I am starting to think that there is at least a slim chance I might get around the 102 mile Cheshire Cat, but I still looking at the roads through the Macclesfield Forest and quake

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

We had some snow here on friday but most of it had melted withinn a couple of hours. So did 60 miles along the coast on saturday,it was lovely &sunny.Sunday went out for 30miles cloudy but slightly milder.I think 15miles inland they had laods of snow&ice. It's always a couple of degrees warmer near the sea(maybe not the north sea) in the winter luckily!!
  • too hung over to ride saturday, but went out sunday and did 45 miles taking both in leith hill and box hill.
Very cold on top of leith, but box hill still had snow up the top. Last half a mile to the cafe was barely rideable. There was even people on ski's up there.
    still all good fun

Just done 63 miles / 101km for the metric challenge.

Pretty cold up here in Edinburgh but dry and no winds.

Had to stop twice to let my feet and fingers warm up.
  • Made 50km but had to wait till late afternoon (5ish) to go out. Only then did it drop below 35 degrees celcius, Going through the main part of the day is crazy unless you want to get sunstroke. Good ol southern hemisphere, nice and toasty down here in Ausland. Cold snap in uk, heatwave in aus - you just can't win. Although i'd prefer the heat to the snow/ice.
Do you have any Therapeutic Use Exemptions?
    No. Never have.
    Never? What about the cortisone?
Well, obviously there was the cortisone

Managed 23 miles on Saturday............................in 3 hours!

Took the MTB out for an all too rare spin through the snow - spinning being the key word here. It was one of the hardest rides I've done for ages, having to go into the red just to keep moving at 4mph. Good workout though :)

Still managed to nearly go base over apex on more than one occasion even on my fat-tyred steed on the bits of country lane between bridleways. Wouldn't have even made it to the the main road on my road bike.

65 miles on tracks and road on my Singlecross which I had set up as a fixie. I was very glad of the cross tyres on some of the snow patches but Saturday was a beautiful day to be cruising the lanes around Belvoir Castle.
