I'm looking at getting a new high end wheelset and i have it down to 2...
The Mavic ST which are flipping gorgeous and would look the business on my Whyte e120 but they are a touch narrow and i'd like to put a 2.35 tyre on the front which might be a bit pinched.
The Roval Traversee are not as good looking but seem to be wide and get rave reviews...
Any others you can suggest... i do not want to go over 1600g for the pair
I'm about 13 stone and i ride generalxc and trail centres and i like to go for it...

This months WMB reviews them both.0

I was very close to buying some Traversees, they seem an absolute bargain. Specialized seem to have marketed them at rougher riders than the ST, they're cheaper, lighter, run wider tyres and use lots of spangley new technology.0

I think you are right... one worry is that they don't seem to take the 15QR which comes on the DT Swiss 130 fork that i'm dreaming of... But its more likely i may end up with a new revelation so that shouldn't be a problem0

WMB doesn't reveiw the Mavic ST but the crosstrail... but i'm pretty much leaning towards the Rovals...
Supersonic - is there a wheel builder out there that cold biuld me a top notch set of wheels, i was going to go to Roger Musson but he has stopped now...0 -
These are factory wheels anyway, so are prebuilt.
But for a good handbuilt set talk to Stif in Leeds.0 -

The front has a few hub options, apparently there was talk of the '09 front one taking QR15 axle, it'll just be a small insert for each axle so I wouldn't be suprised if one came out.
As far as I know you'll get a similar end product with a set of DT240s, with supercomp spokes and Stans Flow rims. They will weigh a bit more as you'll be getting 32 standard spokes instead of the 28/24 straight pull spokes on the Rovals, they also cost a bit more, you will get all the axle options though obviously.
Freeborn do some builds with Stans bits:

Please note this is with the cheaper single butted comp spokes, if you email them though they seem to get back quick! I think they quoted £50 more for supercomps.
Either way, for what you're getting the Traversee's are fantastic value.0 -
Now looking at having some wheels made... would like blue hope pro 2 hubs with Stans ztr arch rims laced with black double butted spokes held by blue nipples... ahhh just comes in on 1600g and will look stunning0

Pro IIs are a good choice for the replacable axle stuff. Wheels rarely come in as estimated though, the error margin is even bigger on custom wheels as each component bends the truth a bit. Still, Arch are very light as long as you only need 19mm rims, which spokes are you going for? Supercomps save another chunk of weight while still being tough enough for AM riding, they are expensive though0

I'm looking at putting 2.35 tyres on so i'm hoping the rim will seat them well... i'll be asking a good few questions as i do not want wheels that are not strong enough.
The Travresee are just the job but a custom build will offer super bling which whilst not the most important thing does count...0
