Both great bikes for the money. But are different bikes. the Pitch is longer travel, slacker, tougher and heavier. The stumpymore XC based - lighter, steeper, less travel.
What terrain will you be riding?0 -
Ill be doing a bit of everything really...nothing too big though0

In my opinion, I'd go for the pitch if you want to play in the jump park (or like getting air on the trails), and go for the stumpy if you don't like getting your wheels off the ground. Not because either can't do it, but the pitch is a bit of a more solid bike.
I've got an stumpy 07 and love it but I definitely fall into the don't want to get off the ground catergory.
Cheers0 -
Im only really getting back into biking after a few years.
whats the better spec out of the two?
Thanks0 -
As above, have different specs for different applications, but value wise the Stumpy is better as is reduced. Though some parts are similar such as gearing.
If it is general XC stuff, moors, woods, longer rides etc the stumpy will be fine. If heading more for the jumps and drops, the pitch may be a better bet. Though the stumpy is quite competent in skilled hands.
I'd try and test them.0 -
You can get that Stumpy for £100 less if you look around too (Leisure Wheels and Evans to name but a few)0

I picked up a 08 Stumpy Elite late last year for £500 off the list price. Awesome bike. I tried out that and the Pitch Pro extensively (took out the demo bike of both versions on my local trails) and went for the Stumpy as I wanted a light weieght XC bike (the stumpy is a few lb lighter).0

Finally decided on the pitch if i can find one now
Only thing holding me back is the colour brown?
Whats everyone's opinion on the colour?
Does anyone have any actual pics of theirs?
Many thanks0 -

The colour is really nice in flesh.
Its a satin finish. Looks sweet!. I had some photos of my bike in the bath somewhere on here !0 -
Can I ask why you chose the Pitch over the Stumpy?0

Tbh im still a little undecided,
Ive not ordered yet...Ive got no way of test driving any of these so im going on user opinions which i know is not ideal.
Everyone seems to be loving the pitch and is getting good reviews0 -
Colour looks great in the flesh see the pic in my sig. And it rides great, descends like a dream and climbs well too. However if you are just doing general xc the stumpy may be a better bet. I would definately test ride the bikes first though.http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1994177/

Id also be looking at the Cannondale Prophet in that price range too.
Surely there will be an evans cycles somewhere near ?0 -
I'm in exactly the same position. Had a year off riding (no reason really, just couldn't really be bothered) and now I'm getting the bug back I'm itching for a new bike. I'm going for the Pitch Pro. Although I doubt I'll ever use all the travel, would probably get on fine with a slightly more 'xc' bike, and would prefer something less common than a Specialized, I just really like the look of the Pitch. I can feel it calling to me!
Plus my flatmate's already got a Stumpjumper and I feel compelled not to copy him.
Going to give myself a month to think it over and get well and truly fed up with my current bike before I go spending the money though.0
