Chain Lube - tried & tested suggestions?

  • +1 Finish Line wet lube but carefully applied. After a degrease, cold water rinse and then drying with paper towels and a GT85 spray to dispel the last of the water put 1 drop on the inside of each roller then once the entire chain is done run is through the gears slowly so that chainrings and cassette come into contact with the chain for several revolution each, then a quick run-through with a paper towel to take off any excess.

For the tiny effort it takes its much better than blasting lube everywhere attracting dirt which just grinds away at the chain and 2.6k miles on a chain with the wear indicator barely past new seems to confirm this!

Exactly how 'thick' and 'long lasting' would you say these are?

I don't mind taking my time applying it, so long as the result is top notch and long lasting in the wet.

    KK.

Best I've used is White Lightning's Purple Extreme. Last well in the Peak district going through deep puddles and all that grit, and is the only lube I use now.

I think you are confused, i think you mean white lightning epic, purple extreme is another lube altogether.

Ive been through it all, or near enough bar rock n roll, finish line wet is ok, they dry only lasst 20miles with me.

Best overall hmm tough tie between purple extreme or pro link progold, both need to be applied with the chain dry and spotless as they only work with themselves, i found the progold lubed better while the purple had great longevity.

Personally id go purple, it's a great all year lube you could even see the mud on the chain was forced to sit on the lube, it wouldn't let it settle on the chain, top stuff.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Finishline wet n dry, dependent on time of year.

If I'm doing a weekender then I use White Lightning clean ride, and apply at the end of each day. Does tend to go a little gloopy, so I'm going to try different one.

White lightning Epic in Winter. White lightning dry in summer.

Using a park chain gang scrubber after every ride. Chain comes up new everytime.

Used to use Gozon back in the 90's which changed its name to Bike Makt. Haven't seen this for a while tho. Gozon was my all time favorite.
