My mate is looking at hardtails, we've found an 08 Orange Evo8 at £750. Having searched on here, people seem to think the Crush is better, but I suspect the Evo might suit his intended use of general trail riding.

To me, it looks pretty good, Mavic rims, Shimano hubs, Juicy 3s, RaceFace evolve XC crank, Recon air forks, XT rear mech, Kenda Nevs, lock ons. etc etc. Nicely detailed frame (thinking mudroom, cruddie attachment, general coolness factor).

I don't think he'll get much better for the price, it seems a better deal than the usual suspects such as a Malt or a 'Hopper, any thoughts guys?

Tis indeed a nice looking bike, but the headtube connection looks a smidge ugly imo...

    Sig pics updated Iain.
  • I didn't think much to it when I saw one in the flesh. This years which is white with orange lettering however, looked awesome. I know they're basically the same thing but to the naked eye it had more 'wow' factor.

Well I can honestly say that it is a beautiful bike, mainly cause i own one!

The things ive reaplced though are as follows,

Front Mech from LX to XT, Much much better, got it quite cheap in a LBS sale.

The chain from the standard one fitted to a Sram PC991 solid pin (both this and the front mech were replaced thanks to me hitting something and it ripping the chain from m bike and it bent the front mech completely out of shape)

Avid Juicy3's to Avid Code 5's, now i dont care what anybody says, the avid juciy 3's are shiiite. I like my brakes to stop me, quickly.

Pedals from standard flats to Shimano M647's. (again imho these are great pedals)

Blue Hope seat clamp (none GR) (Purly pimping)

    Blue Hope Stem (As above)

Depending on how much you weigh id reccomend getting a fork pump too, cause im rather large mine are about 140psi.
  • I have just been out and bought one today from Leisure lakes bikes. knocked fifty quid off aswell so only costin me £700. Pick it up on saturday. Can't wait im like a kid at xmas :)

£700 is a really good price.i got an evo2 in 2003 and think i paid more than that.
they are a lovely looking bike ,as you say.
the bad news for me was that the evo2 got stolen out of my shed and its replacement(evo4) lasted 2 months before that was stolen too.

Might be time to start investing in a better lock then! or putting your bike in the house, mines in my house chained to my multigym :?

Ill stick some photos of my evo8 up when ive given her a good wash, she's caked in shit at the mo :-)
