Hi all,
I think i might need a new headset, When i pull the front brake at a stand still i can then wobble it front and backwards and it feels loose!!! Yet the headset bolt and stem are all tight Also the cups are tight on the front wheel.

Can anyone help??

Cheers

Have you loosened the stem and then checked the headset preload bolt ? Probably teaching Granny how to suck eggs...

A shagged headset usually means the bearings have collapsed making turning unpleasent. SOunds more like the stem is tightened properly.

Might also be worth checking it isn't wheel or fork related (loose cones or shagged fork bushings).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I bought the frame on ebay came with the headset, I have built the bike up from scratch, This problem has got me though, The stem feels tight, It could be the fork bushings, Where are they located?

    Cheers

have you fitted the crown race that came with the headset to your fork?

Fit the one that came with the headset and the problem should go.

might be, but the correct crown race is a start.
