2.2 tyres on Mavic XC717 Disc rims

Hi all,
I'm going to have a pair of wheels built and am deciding between the Mavic XC717 Disc and the XM719 Disc. For my weight and the type of riding I do, I don't actually require the strength of the XM719 (I'm just over 130 pounds or 9.5 stones). However, I do like to have the option of putting a 2.2in tyre on and according to the Mavic website, the recommened tyre size for the XC717d is 1.0 - 2.1 width and for the XM719 it's 1.5 - 2.3. So, my question is: Is it ok to put a 2.2 tyre (e.g Conti Mountain King) on the XC717d given that I'm a light rider doing mostly XC and trail?
Thanks and have a great day.

I used to run 2.3 Continental Verticals on my old 717's and they fitted fine.0

Continental tyres do seem to actually be smaller the size quoted. My 2.2 Mountain Kings are nearer 2.1
Do Mavic not do an XC719?0 -
You'll have no probs. I had a set of super fat panaracer fire FR's fitted on a set of 717 rims with no probs at all, the tires will have a rounder profile but it wont be problem.0

When you look at the other 17 rims, 317 for instance, they're rated for 2.3s. But when you actually check the sticker on the rim, the 717 is rated for up to 2.3 up to, IIRC, 60psi. My own suspicion is that Mavic wanted a bit more differentiation between the rims, rather than it being a practical reason, but that's just me being suspicious really.Uncompromising extremist0

I run conti mountain kings on my 717's - 2.2 on the rear and 2.4 up front. Not experienced any adverse effects yet.

Does it affect the tyre profile at all? I'm planning to run my 2.35 nevegal sometimes (no point to it for my normal riding, just extra drag and weight) but I can see it might be pulled a little tight...Uncompromising extremist0

Thanks guys for the opinion, I think I will stick to the XC717d as there is no point carrying extra rotational weight, especially when the extra weight is at the outer most tip of the wheels!0

Yep, no problem. I'm running 2.25s on mine with no ill effects.0

Contis are definitely on the narrow side, 2.2" wouldn't worry me at all. I'd be a bit concerned by the 2.35" Nevegal though, those things are much bigger :? It's not about pulling it tight, it's about the bottom being pinched together too much so the tyre can potentially roll over.0

Yeah, I'll be approaching it with caution... Wish i'd had it on today actually, I never usually use fat tyres on my local loop but I could have done with a bit more rear traction trying to go up hills in the snowUncompromising extremist0

i had temporaily run a 2.5 on the xc717 i just didnt like the amount of roll that tire had on the rim after that i ran a 2.1 and that was absolutelty fine.Ride it hard on a hardtail0
