After seeing Robbie Williams in the papers the other day, riding a Bianchi(alledgedly costing £5000) I wondered what other famous people were roadies?

  • Lance Armstrong's quite famous.
  • well if you look at the article

and the bike that the mechanic is holding up outside the shop it's certainly not a five grand bike; more like a sub 1 grand bike seeing as it has alloy Campag Veloce levers.

Anyway cool he got Bianchi. Paul Smith the designer is a big fan of them and apparently used to have one displayed in the window of his London shop in the early 2000s.

Pretty sure Robin Williams has a bit of a thing for Colnagos. Rides a beat up old steel Master or something.

Fern Britton was reported to have done a bit a year or so back. I wonder if she still does.

Eric Clapton was a good first cat roadie. One of his prize possessions during his superstardom was a hand-built Bob Jackson.

80's star Nick Kershaw was also a roadie.

It will be no surprize to many that the two main members of the band Kraftwerk, Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider, are keen cycling fans. In fact their album 'Electric Cafe' was delayed because Ralf was getting over crash injuries. This pissed off the other two band members somewhat.

The comedian Hugh Dennis, of ;The Mary Whitehouse Experience' and 'Punt and Dennis' has ridden the Etape du Tour.

    - Alexi Sayle
    - Mark Webber
    - Alain Prost

Doesn't Alain do L'étape every year? I'm sure I read something about that quite recently.

I think the Brad Pitt pictures come from the filming of the movie Burn After Reading where he plays a fitness instructor. So they don't really count, do they? Although if they do, then we can also add Kevin Costner due to his role in American Flyers.

Brian Ferry used to be a roadie...

musicOMH: Did you really want to be a Tour de France champion?
Bryan: Oh, I used to when I was 15! I was really mad about cycling and racing.

    musicOMH: Did you train?
Bryan: Oh yeah, every night. I had beautiful bikes and I was really into it. When I was that age, cycling just seemed so glamorous. I guess the fact it's very colorful - French, European and Continental.

musicOMH: Are you still into it?
Bryan: No, not at all. But people always remember, especially in France, that I'm interested in it and I get letters about it.

He was in one of the Clarion clubs, I seem to remember.

Tim Krabbe (wrote the Vanishing and the Rider and was a champion chess player - he's very famous in the Netherlands) was a very talented amateur cyclist. One of the very best.

Also he's the brother of Jeroen Krabbe, but they don't speak to each other apparantly.
