Hi

I originally posted this in the mtb forum but was advised to post here also. I'm moving to London soon and will be bringing my bike. I am looking for people to ride with and show me the trails in and around London. I have tried looking for a mtb club but have only succedded in finding road riding clubs and racing clubs. I mainly ride xc and general trails and will probably get a second cheaper bike for commuting.

  • where roughly in london i'm SW ish london so for me its the downs or swinley forrest, some folk do go round richmound park, but, well it's a park.
  • I will be living in Surrey Quays. I don't mind having to ride on the road for a bit to get to trails. I currently have a 10 mile road ride to get to a trail anyway :-)
  • okay you'll be fairlly cental, well then it's Epping Forest, to your north and the north downs to your south, be needing to look at trains or car, be around 20 miles to the M25 and then further to some where to ride.
  • good riding in the chilterns, can easily stick the bike on the trains outof Marylebone

Indeed there is - but the Chilterns are muddy beyond belief at this time of year. I am still finding bits of mud from Sunday's ride.

You can also look at the Surrey Hills / North Downs out of the Dorking area. http://www.redlandstrails.org/ has some info on some tidy rides down there

Btw Chiltern Railways get the right hump if you get on with a filthy bike :)

The countryside isn't as far as you think. I work in Greenwich, which is about 15 mins cycle from Surrey Quays, and commute from Gravesend. The M25's no more that 10-15 miles, and once your beyond that there's some good riding to be had on the North Downs.

If you head out towards Sevenoaks there's some good natural trails, and the North Downs are always good. I haven't ridden XC in the area for a few years so things may have changed, but iirc there are some good trails in the area bounded by the M25/M26, & M2/A2. If you get the train to Dartford this is all within easy reach, and the cycle back home is do-able if you can't get on the train with a muddy bike
