  • It just says 'Hollowtech' on the arms. Its a trials frame i bought of some kid and he couldn't get the cranks of (i just rode ot round the block till they came loose :? ) so i scored for some free cranks you see.

The bb is a shimano, its got 'Z1' stamped on it and the teeth are in the inner side of the lock ring. The thread for the bolts looks to be about 2.4mm.
  • Actually, it has teeth on both sides of the lock ring, more and smaller on the innerside and less and bigger on the outerside.

  • I can't get any pics up at the moment because i've lost my bluetooth dongle.

Would you suggest taking one of the crank arms to the bike shop and if i say the bb thread is 2.4mm in diameter they'll be able to help me out?

well as it is shimano they will be able to get the right bolts. If you take the arm they will know which.

For example the HT 1 cranks can use the same bb but the XT had self extracting bolts. the LX did not. but both would work with each other. etc...... all the same but different.

  • Thanks Nick, you've helped me out good. I tried one of the bolts of my old husslefelt cranks and it didn't fit, which got me thinking that there must be various sizes.

Also, i've just noticed i've got grease and oil all over the laptop keyboard, my lass is gonna kill me
