  • As said on another thread, i'm finding it very hard to beat CRC for prices atm. Some of their stuff is astoundingly low priced compared to other places.
  • This is getting ridiculous though

Last month I was gonna buy an SLX double £70

Last week I thought again about it £80

    I check today and they're £100

The hope x2 mini pro's from wiggle have gone from £145 to £162 per end in a weekend.

I get the impression there is a bit of band wagon jumping going on with various shops/companies.

I've bought myself 4 XT cassettes and 4 Sram 991 chains today, can't risk any more increases.

  • A few places still have old stock in hence the low prices. So if your thinking of getting something now is the time till all the cheap stock has gone.

Yeah, you can still jump on some old prices... I just got probably one of the last £70 SLX chainsets, even the shop I got it from is up to £100 now just 3 days later.

There's undeniably a lot of profit-taking going on here, the price to restock has gone up but shops are quietly marking up the old stock that they were selling at lower prices last week, knowing that the price expectation has shifted. I would too.

  • I wonder if they will come down again if the pound strengthens?
I can`t see many people justifying the purchase of XTR,possibly even XT components if this continues.

  • The pound is strengthening a bit, 1.15 today, which is the best rate I've got for a while.

Find it incredible they're passing the rises on in the current climate, are the margins really that tight?

iI wonder if Shimano might lose market share to SRAM now they are similarly priced?
XT is near enough the same as X9 now, instead of being usefully cheaper.
Whilst there have been price increases acroos the board,I wonder why Shimano has gone up so dramatically compared to SRAM?
Is it because SRAM was over piced or Shimano under priced?

margins in brick and mortar bike shops are always tight, let alone when the rice of the componants rise...

    .

Thers not really an eexcuse for Hope prices going through the roof, they`re designed and manufactured in the UK so the only increases should be on the price of raw materials which should have been factered in when the new models were released anyway.

Seems a bit naughty to me

I'm sure the manufacturers will have kept their prices as low as possible, but they do have to make a profitable margin (as do the retailers). Times are tough and they're all making the call between being too expensive and not making a profit.

The marrkets have been buoyant int he last few years so there were selling loads, the bubles burst at the wrong time, commodity prices, exchange rate issues, liquidity costs and consumer spending down turn (all of which would have caused small prices rises in themselves) have hit together to create big price rises.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

It's the buyers that should step up at this time and stop buying things at these prices - they'll only go one way then - down! Look at the housing market... This obviously difficult though if something breaks and you need to replace it.
  • Given that :-

1 A lot of bike equipment is bought because you 'want it' rather than 'need it' and,

2 The country/world is in recession, unemployment is up, many workers are on shorter hours, an increase in prices at this time is insane (IMO). Bide your time , and wait for the tide to turn. Prices will need to fall to sell the goods - take a look at the car industry or the housing market as examples.

  • Is it just Shimano prices that are set to skyrocket or are all parts going up? I see CRC now have the new prices up... £185 for an XT chainset!

Many brands are - SRAm have pushed up RockShox by a considerable amount, the drivetrain already has gone up a bit, but I expect more.
