Back off to Uni this weekend, and we need to get some food in, but I ned some recipe ideas so that I know what to buy!
usually I just buy what I like and then end up buying extra to make meals during the week so i'm just after a few cheap evening meal ideas!

I like canned chicken in a sauce served with rice, or Dolmio pasta stir-in sauces when I just want something quick and inexpensive and combinations of chicken, pasta and pesto or curry always go down well.0 -
get some chicken breast from tesco, and fry em up with some spices etc have it with rice0

casseroles are your friend. Asda do the best chicken mix at 41pence a sachet, add 2 onions, a carrot and some chicken breast pieces, for beef i prefer colmans mix. 2-3 meals in one cook which just can be reheated in the microwave or saucepan or even oven. Add cheap frozen yorkshires for more yummynessStart Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009

my flatmates take the piss because I eat nothing like a student! could be part to due to my course, but I just prefer a proper meal - unlike one of the girls that has had chicken nuggets and chips every night since we moved in
I'm just getting sick of similar meals tho (pasta, rice, chicken)...need a bit of variety
can't do anything casserole or stew style as the GF won't eat it, however will be making some lovely lancashire hot pot0 -
My ex I was with in my final year was a fresher and hadn't quite got the hang of cooking, I swear all she ever made was pancakes, but they were good pancakes! Personally I took the student food stereotype, tore it up, set fire to it and then ate it. I'm the only student I ever met who had a cook's blowtorch and could make a creme brulee without needing a recipe book.
My favourite was always fajitas. Don't bother with the Old El Paso packs they're a rip-off. You can get a pack of plain tortilla wraps for a quid (and they're quite often on offer as well), a couple of onions, value peppers and some chicken. I tend to buy chicken in bulk when it's on offer, open it, individually wrap the breasts and freeze them wrapped, that way you can defrost only what you need. Tesco do a really good tub of Jamaican seasoning for less than a quid down the ethnic food aisle that is way better and cheaper than a proper fajita seasoning. Best thing about this is that you can use a tiny bit of chicken and bulk it up with cheap veg."The problem was, I was still using my eyes even though I had them shut"

Tuna, pasta, mayo and whatever else added is a bargain massive eat. Always does the trick for me anyway!0

There was a nice looking spag bol recipe in mbuk the other month, spiced up with chillies. I made that and it was really nice, however I do recommend putting toilet roll in the fridge beforehand :shock:0

Omelettes are easy to make. Chop up then fry onions, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, bits of ham. Beat a few eggs and pour them on. Stir for a min then fry for a few more 'til the underside is 'done'. put grated or chopped up cheese on top then grill it all 'til it looks all melted and 'a bit brown'.
Experiment with different ingredients if you don't like any of mine.
Try not to melt the fryingpan's handle when it's under the grill :oops:0 -
