Hi there ,Just got some Easton EC monkey light DH bars and saw in the instructions that you should use a special Carbon paste on the inside of the stem were it contacts the bars. But my stem instuctions just says to use a light smear of grease.Have got a 08 Enduro with the intergrated stem,Just need to know if normal Finish line grease is ok or were to get the correct carbon stuff as i dont want to damage the bars Thanks

Dry or proper carbon grease. A lot of general greases contain chemicals that can damage carbon. The carbon will often swell and become week. Just the other day a seen a road bike that steerer was so contaminated it was actually bright yellow and delaminating in my hand.0

I have been asking myself the same question
I have been looking around and on another forum, some guy actually spoke to the dude who wrote zinn, I think his name is zinn>?
Anyway, he put normal grease on and never had a problem, I think as long as you dont live in africa or dubai, which is in a hot climate, you should be ok not matter what you do.
If you are a bit weary, just give it a twist every month or so.
This is what I got from my research anyway.
I am going to clean and put on dry like my ricthey carbon bars, which have been great.0 -
Worth pointing out the reason for the assembly paste being advised.
With the correct carbon assembly paste, the bars will stay still with a lower clamping torque. This is important for carbon and assembling dry or with grease is called: "getting away with it (tm)." and is a far cry from best practice.0 -
Thanks for your posts, I had fitted them with a little grease but after reading this i will clean it off and get some proper Carbon paste.Im sure 4 day wont of done any harm and i had used a torqh wrench Thanks again0
