Half clip pedals without straps

Hi All,
I have read earlier blogs from other posts and the majority of people tend to favour clipless pedals over toe clips with straps, due to both performance and safety.
However, I am currently using the hard plastic toe clips withough straps and am getting on fine with them. My feet never slip off the pedals, and when I come to stop I can easily remove my feet without concern.
Does or has anyone moved from the toe clips without straps to clipless pedals? did they really make that much of a difference in terms of performance?
Is anyone still using the toe clips without straps?
Tino.

Try pulling up rather than just pushing down, also try, when your foot gets to the bottom of the stroke, trying the 'wipe your foot' method as i'm fairly sure your feet will come off backwards. Try clipless, you really wont regret it (also ignore the clipless moments, i put off going clipless for this reason but have never had a problem )winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg
