First proper commute in tomorrow, hopefully (Bristol)

Did the test run on Sunday.

Had a hairy moment in my car yesterday.

Want to get on my bike before the enthusiasm disappears!

Anyone in Bristol cycle in today? How was it? Very slippery?

Hoping by 8:30-9am tomorrow it'll just be wet rather than icy...

Packed up my rear pack (Burt Back-rack-pack) and am now crossing my fingers!

Should I do it? Or wait another day?

Looking at the roads outside they are damp which could mean icy but as virtually all of your route will be on bus routes it shouldn't be too icy. The gritters have been out, obviously to encourage you to ride tomorrow, tonight. The time you're planning on riding willbe the main rushhour so traffic will be more dense and hopefully slower.

    Good luck.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Thanks redvee, quite comforting!

The ride was fine on Sunday, the odd idiot tearing past but of course fairly quiet. My mate who came with me was fairly impressed by my signalling and traffic-wariness which is also a comfort - he cycles in London and admits to being 'naughtier' than me ;)

Probably as I have driven along there so often I know what drivers are likely to do/notice.

    Wish me luck!

The forecast for the South West is looking pretty bad, might be better to wait a little while.
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
  • Today was fine on most roads but rumour has it the weather may be going a bit artic again tonight so like ITB said may be best to give it a miss.
Having said that if its proper snow agin I will definately be on the MTB bike again as that was great fun yesterday morning :)

Well it went fine today - I'm perfectly happy cycling in the wet/drizzle/cold, no problem :)

Totterdown --> Aztec West took me just under an hour. I didn't push it too hard, got overtaken several times, was happy to pause for the red lights, only paused once for myself (I /really/ needed to apply more lip-balm, not cos I'm weak, honest).

Feeling very smug and virtuous! And the showers at work are wonderful, beats our dribbly thing back home :D

I'll rest tomorrow and then see what the weather's like on Friday - as that's usually the most frustrating day to drive home (traffic, being stuck, etc).

    HURRAH!

  • Well Done on the commute, welcome to the fold,

Soon you'll be looking out at the howling wind, freezing temperatures and driving rain and say to you other half.

Wind gets me down, that's the only killer - the Sunday ride was massively windy which made it hard work at times! Esp when it's blowing you back down the hill...

I had a bit of SCR with a big guy on an MTB the other day, you're other half perhaps - cannot believe he was in shorts!

Got him on Filton Hill on the SS, then he got me on the A38 by Tesco, then I got him again on the hill by Monks Park school.

    I like hills!

Haha! If he was pretty tall, fairly skinny, red top (I think), black/grey rucksack and on a large hybrid (kinda looks like a MTB as he makes the heels look pretty small - but it does have mudguards), then that was probably him. Aye think he does still wear shorts in - they have a red dart down the side if it was him ;)

Holy snowy this morning, great fun though! Apart from my seat on the MTB kep lowering itself grrrrr.....
  • Be careful on the way home. Over my way in Bristol the gritters weren't out and the roads are very wet with melting snow. If it gets cold it will be very icey tonight in places

Mmm wonder what it'll be like tomorrow morning. I fancy a cycley start to the weekend...

Today it wasn't so bad on the main roads, just the residential ones. I guess at least with a bike I can walk it to the clear roads, rather than wheelspinning my way out of a parking space as I did this morning :S
