You couldn't find a better base for MTBing - or indeed any kind of cycling. Check out Nevis Cycles for info and maps. This site gives details of the Great Glen Cycle Route, of which there are loads of books for walkers.

Hey there!
I live north of Inverness and we have a rake of routes to suit all levels of rider.
Here's a few with the links within 50 miles of Inverness
Learnie Red Rocks: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-6NZE9W
Kyle of Sutherland: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-74EJDM (Carbisdale Castle run is Blue Graded, Balblair is an awesome Black graded run with some stunning views)
And also there is the run in Golspie which claims to have the longest descent in the UK (1300 feet to sea level....... http://www.highlandwildcat.com Well worth a drive north!
Enjoy!It's been a while...0 -

all the other trails around the Loch Ness area are also very good, Abriachan, Laggan, Learnie, Contin also has some brilliant secret singletrack. if you go and see steve at 'Square Wheels' (bike shop) in Strathpeffer he'll give you a map and help you find these hidden gems.ThisSkyThunders! Aye?

I can't believe Golspie is so feted in MB circles, went to school there although that was before the whole MB thing took off
The scenery there is truly magnificent, as it is in most of Sutherland.0 -
