Hi Floks,
Just thought I'd let you know about an exciting series in Ireland. Below is the press release. Any further info can gotten at mtbireland.com or e-mail 'kCapitalchallenge at gmail.com'
Best trails we have to offer and some AMAZING Technical single track..Read on...
The K Capital Series is taking a new twist for 2009. The format this year will no longer follow the standard XC format; instead it will be a challenge series with a big lap format. The events will be a mass start with all competitors doing the same race distance*. These won’t be marathons as the expected time for first man home will be around the two hour mark.
For the series we are working on three different venues all of which will be in Wicklow. One venue will have two laps while both other venues will have just one lap. Think Djouce trail Challenge but longer!
Another new feature will be the addition of a 4x style event on the Saturday but with a XC twist. Riders will race in heats around a very short loop, no more than two minutes long and do approx 4/5 laps. From each race riders will advance to the next round with the goal to get into and win the final.
The kids are also being catered for with racing taking place on the Saturday on specially designed courses with the emphasis on really close racing over fast flowing courses. All three rounds will count towards your final points, and a new points system will ensure a nail biting thriller at the final round. Competitors who successfully complete all three rounds will also get a finishers t-shirt.
Our goal for this year is to turn mountain bike competition into a fun filled weekend and to make it accessible to anyone who wants to compete against others, themselves or just the mountain.
*We will have a Novice category which will only do about 50% of the main course so there should be an event to suit everyone over the weekend.
Once we have finalised all the details all the information will be posted on a brand new website and users will also be able to register online for the events.
