Has anyone done this and got any tips?

I am looking for a long weekend challenge later in the year and this looks like a good one. Is it doable in three days (250 miles total).

I did it in April 2007. There were about 20 of us including a leader a medic and back-up. It was in aid of Bobath therapy Centre Wales. It was fantastic as it was the warmest April on record apparently. I rode it on my MTB but there were others there who rode road bikes.

Our leader made sure that we stuck to route 8 of the Lon Las and because of this we did go off road some of the time. The only time the roadies carried their bikes was on a short stretch between Rhayader and Builth!

As far as doing it in 3 days though, Im not sure. We did it in 5 averaging about 55 per day.
We stopped at Tremadog, Corris, Rhayader and Brecon.
I can reccomend the hostel in Rhayader. The spread that the landlady put on for us was second to none!

There are some steep climbs notably as you ride out of Dolgellau heading to Corris and again going over the Cambrian mountains from Machynleth. Its probably doable in three days but, in my opinion, it will be hard.

    I hope this helps.
  • Great - thanks a lot - I'll look at the links and get planning. We can ride that sort of distance in three days but not if it includes carrying bikes!

    cheers
