i have resently bought a second hand spec big hit which came with Hope mono 6 pot brakes. un till now everything has worked fine but now the rear brake is very sticky. i losened the lever and cleaned as much as i could without affecting the fluid and i thought the problem had gone but i took the bike out and then sqeezed the lever and the lever is not retreacting again. should i try bleeding the brake or take it to a shop for rapairs :?: :?:

what is happening at the caliper end?

  • does the lever come back to the bar? does it not return after you stop squeezing?
m-trax ti 1000- back when i was rubbish.
evo 8 - i am continuing to be rubbish.
  • check for sticky pistons... usual cause for this.

See if the pads are returning equally and go from there

no after you stop sqeezing the lever stays where it is and you have to flick it with your hand to get it back

  • Sounds like the pivots in the lever are seizing. It doesnt sound fluid related so bleeding will get u nowhere. the lever doesnt rely on fluid back pressure to return to the off position so seized pistons shouldnt affect it either.
May be that the lever piston (master cylinder) is sticking....that will involve a full lever strip and poss re-seal.
