Just read on the Cycling Weekly news page that Mark Bell has died, aged 49. Apparently Tony, his brother and one-time CW columnist was the one to report Mark's passing on the CW forum. The cause of Mark's death wasn't reported in the news item.

For those who don't remember the 80's, Mark was British pro champion in the 80's, and probably one of the top UK based riders at that time.

I didn't put this in the 'Some Sad News' thread as I thought that should be reserved for bikeradar contributors. I was shocked by this one.
To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.

Yes,i came across the post on the Cycling Weekly site,on saturday,by chance,as it's not a forum i visit regularly.
In later years Tony was the one who will be known to the younger end on here, but for those of us in our forties (or+) will remember Mark Bell as the star of the family.
Very sad news,& high praise indeed, when you get the likes of Callum Gough rating him as one of the best pro's of the time.
    so many cols,so little time!
