Can anyone advise me on where i can get info on what diet is best for cycling?
Dont mean before/during/after a ride i mean meals during the week etc.
As im fairly new to this im assuming that certain foods will provide certain energy etc where as other food could be bad for cramps and whatnot.
This is all part of my grand life changing plan which has seen me quit smoking and virtually stop the beer, now its time to work on the results of being a slob for so long.
If it helps im 32 and currently weigh in at 18.5 stone  wanting to get down to around 14st by end of this year.
Cheers.

Massive subject as you might guess. For my reference I jotted down some numbers that appeared in a post of similar subject a while back and they seem to have stood test of time.
Useful guideline daily target general eating target is:
Fat 0.8-1.4 g per lb body weight
Carb 5.7- 9.8 g per lb
Protein 1.3 - 2.3 g per lb
+
No more than 20g saturated fat per day
Target 35g fibre.
Also (from experience) recommend using a food diary to get a handle on what really eating, can be an eye opener. Some more on that here

Thats great thanks a lot for that, will work it out.
I know dieting is fairly straight forward really, ie eat healthily, salads, etc but ive been out a few times on my bike and im totally hooked on it and i see this as the way to help me lose weight and have fun doing it rather than looking at the tv in the gym.
Cheers again0 -
I'm rather simplistic about such things.
Basically eat sensibly, avoid fry ups, burgers etc. I tend to eat Pasta, jacket potato's and rice. Plenty of veg, fruit and fibre.
Ride wise, low intencity long distances burns fat. I lost two stone over about six months.
All the best in your endevour.Tail end Charlie
