Summer!?!?!?! What summer would that have been then? I think we've had more sun this winter than we had from June-September 08.
Luckily I got off to Hungary for a couple of weeks of decent hot weather.0 -
Quite heavy snowfall through the night and it is still snowing in Durham. I hadn't seen a snowplough so I bottled out of taking the bike and drove in, but once on the main routes the roads are clear-ish.0

8 inches here overnight and more orecast this afternoon. I was due to drive to Huntingdon for a meeting but abandoned that idea. Rode the 5 miles to work offroad to find only a handful of people made it - there's a small hill into the complex and the cars and sliding all over the place. Expect I'll spend until lunchtime here - give my bike kit a chance to dry out before I venture back home to watch the Tour of Qatar on the telly!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Loads of snow here in London.. about 8 inches outside this morning, and it had settled on the roads. I didn't fancy it on the road bike, and the MTB is out of action awaiting new wheel. There was only one thing for it, so I ran to work instead - it brought me new appreciation of the rest you get when going down hill on a bike.
Anyway there were a few hardy souls out on bikes. Including a couple on road bikes - I am not sure my Pro Race 3's would have gripped much on snow...0 -
i am working from home - going to do an hour on Kinver Edge at 5pm with the lights blazing. only an inch and a half at the moment though0
-
I am at work despite the 6 inches of snow... I tried to get in on the bike but then abandoned when, after finally reaching a section of road that was rideable, I realised that my brakes had stopped working...0

It was snowing yesterday as I was on the return leg of my Sunday ride (101·53km) and the headwind made things a bit unpleasant. Lots of motorists were looking at me like I was some kind of loony. Still, it was good to get a ride in.
No chance of that today though, at least 1in of snow on local roads which has been compacted to a nice glassy surface. Time to get on the turbo in my shed tonight

My bike looked something like that tonight on my way home
First time i've ridden in decent snow, and apart from freezing fingers, it was bloody good fun. Especially weaving my way freely out of the gridlock in town, then going down the middle of the road in the name of safety with cars giving me more space than ever. Until i realised riding in the 2-inch deep snow was easier than the icy compacted stuff.
However i think it'll be the bus in the morning.0 -
All turned to ice now so I will be heading to the shed for a frigid session on the turbo trainer (at least until I work up a sweat). I'm still trying to get in shape for this 102-miler on 29 March (Cheshire Cat). The prospect is starting to worry me a bit now. I need to do a 70 mile ride this Sunday so fingers crossed the weather is decent.

Cheshire cat? Sounds fun, is it hilly?0

I know what you mean, I'm training for the Cheshire Cat myself and am starting to worry about the lack of decent training. I think it's just a case of getting out on the mtb in the park and going for it. Any ride is going to contribute and a little bit of cross-training never hurt anyone.Cheshire cat? Sounds fun, is it hilly?
The first 60 miles is relatively flat but then you hit 25% on Mow Cop and the Peak District for the next 20 miles or so.

Still time to get out there and enjoy it before it all disappears chaps .....

There's nothing like riding on the white stuff to sharpen up your bike handling skills! I fell off 4 times on monday, but 3 were into a nice soft drift, but the 4th was onto tarmac - hip's still a bit stiff. I ran yesterday and back on the bike today - although it's melting, there's still plenty of grippy hardpack offroad to enjoy - might venture the long-way round on the way home. I'm running MTB wheels on my cross bike so the CoG is lower and I can easily get a foot down for a bit of sideways action!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Snow is OK, but I'm no longer risking ice. First time for nearly 6 years that I've not ridden for 6 days on the bounce. 2-3 hours walking in heavy boots and in snow seems quite strenuous exercise as an alternative!
Main roads OK (and not much traffic) this a.m.
Not doing my "training" for a hoped-for Hadrian's C2C in May any favours....but then nor would broken bones at my age. The older one gets the less forgiving tarmac becomes...d.j.

I know this is the Road section but check out the pics of our snowy MTB ride on Saturday. It's not often we get it like this in Devon.

Should've gone to work on my 'cross bike at the start of last week but it's devoid of a front wheel and didn't get round to doing a swap with the road bike. Just to make matters worse, it has no guards and my waterproof trousers recently finally disintegrated after 9 years' use (not bad going really). Still, getting to work on 23mm semi-slicks was interesting to say the least; only fell off once in 2 days (own fault for braking too quick), though I did overshoot a set of traffic lights in Winchester city centre due to extremely slippery conditions.
Fast forward to rotten weather of a different kind 7 days on, as I got a real soaking there and back yesterday. Turns out my new Lusso overshoes were money well spent, mind you!

Elganesh - I feel your pain. I am still trying to get fit. Did a 120.76km ride on Sunday (75 miles) and again it snowed, in fact it snowed so much on the return leg that I noticed it had built up into little drifts on my shoulders and right over my balls :? I've got a stinking cold now and I'm really miffed because the Cheshire Cat training ride is scheduled for this weekend (see Sportives thread). Who knows, plenty of vitamin C might see me able to do the 42-mile route people have got planned.
Personally, when I know I am capable of an 85-90 mile ride then I reckon I will be able to survive the Cheshire Cat.
A quick warning to anyone doing this ride who might be behind me, I am the world's slowest and most scaredy descender, so if you are looking to break land-speed records for God's sake make sure you are in front of me :!:

Well yes it was good while it lasted. What do you reckon, will we get any more or not?0

I literally stepped out of my door at 11 and it started snowing.
I am guttered because I got up at 8 when it was nice and dry and NOT SNOWING to clean my bike before I went out"A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

Sold a dummy this morning with the lovely sunshine. Jumped on the bike and headed out. 40 mins later the snow started. Managed to keep going but very gingerly and was glad when I turned for home with the wind behind (forgot my goggles and couldnt see very well with snow lashing my eyes). Fell off after hitting a solid lump of ice in the middle of the road obscured by the newly falling snow. Punctured after hitting an obscured pothole :x . After some more hairy moments I gave up and called for "international rescue" in the form of concerned wife. Must check the forecast next time.2 Wheels or not 2 wheels..That is not in question.0
