Pinnacle - Are they decent?

I am researching into buying a bike.
I have seen a couple of ones I like.

Are pinnacle a good brand? And what about scorpian - are they a budget brand?

What are some of the best brands out there?

Before christmas I was doing a lot of research into Pinnacle bikes as my insurer sent me to Evans Cycles with a voucher to replace my stolen bike.

After reading the bike radar and bike magic reviews on the Pinnacle bikes I decided to take the plunge and buy one. This decision was based on my need for a budget bike that I can build on over time (short of money) and reading the majority of reviews where they stated the bikes had very solid frames. Upgrading components doesn't bother me so this sounded perfect, cheap bike with a solid frame.

I guess it all depends on what you are after in a bike. From what I have read, someone after the best components on a stock bike probably wont be happy with a Pinnacle.

As for other bike brands, most are established and therefore should be quality (except modern Raleigh bikes sold at argos) and researching the components rather than bike brands will probably get you the best bang for buck.
