I'm looking for lightweight , 15mm axle wheels , and can't decide whether to go for ready made or handbuilt .
I'm into a bit of XC racing /enduros and trail riding , not into drop offs /heavy use .
I'm unsure about the Hope SPXC as they've got that funny 3 bolt disc attachment and the I'm stuck with using Hope brakes (I think ) .
I've got a budget of £500 ,
Any ideas ??

I have the Hope wheels - and they work just fine with AVid Juicy brakes - they did need the pad tab - the long tab that you pull to get the pads out - filed down, but they are still easy enough to change pads etc.
Am very happy with them - and rotors are readily available - I ordered the wheels with 2 160mm rotors, and actually needed a 140 on the rear, ordered on a Monday, delivered same week - so not the long wait I was expecting.0 -
I think for £500 you could get some nice lightweight Stans rims on the hubs of your choice.
Custom definitely the way to go there.0 -
Hi guys...
Am in the same dilema. Dave Hinde sells Hope Hoops and Hope Tech disc brakes for 515quid!
What about that...
Good wheels and brakes for the 500 you wanna spend?0 -
Dave Hinde????
I got mine from Stif for £276 for the wheels only - in their pre xmas sale - not sure of current price.

Hence the comment about ordering with a credit card for the payment protection..*Rock Lobster Team Tig SL (22lb 14oz)

Haha, yes I know they are a retailer - its just there is LOTS of information on here explaining how bad they are!
Didnt see any comment about using a CC though? :roll:0 -
Oh for god sake, avoid david hinde like the plague, you'll probably get cheap wheels with a sticker on. Do a forum search for him and you'll see what i mean...
If I had 500 to splurge on wheels, i'd go to justridingalong.co.uk.
Hope hubs, stans arch rims, aerolite spokes, brass prolock nipples and tubeless rimstrips comes to about 10p under budget. but you could change some bits aorund and get something cheaper.0 -
