Do Winstanleysbikes ever deliver??

Has anyone else had the same trouble....????? Been given the runaround for a month!

I ordered a bike from them on the 11th January, with a note on the item that the bike will take between 2-7 days for delivery.
Then I was told that it would be in on the 17th January, this was good news.
On the 19th I then contacted them to find out what was going on then, was sent a email saying "we will contact the suppliers and confirm" (My reaction is "Should they not be doing this around the 17th? and not waiting for me").

The reply came back "we have contacted our suppliers again, and have been informed of a revised delivery date of 27-Jan-2009."

So on the 26th again I email them to find out if they can let me know (In otherwords ring up the suppliers and find out) the reply was the following:
"Thanks for the reply. It takes 24 hours for us to process a delivery. Your bike will be dispatched 28/1/9, delivery to you will be 1/3 working days later. Sorry i cant be more specific about 95% of the time it is a next working day service. The couriers quote 1/3 to allow for unforeseen circumstances.
If they attempt delivery and no one is home to accept it they will leave a calling card. Your bike will be taken to your local depot, if you call the contact number on the card redelivery can be arranged.
If you require any further assistance please drop us a email".

So on the 28th January, I once again chase up and ask them it's day past the 27th could you let me know if you have sent the bike out"

Then today the 29th January, I recieve the following:
"Thanks for the email. Sorry for the delay with your order. My colleague has spoken to Raleigh regarding this over due delivery. Unfortunately they have given us a revised due date of 11/2/9.
Once we receive the delivery it will be 2/4 working days to arrive to you. Please except our apologies for your wait.

Kindest regards & thanks for shopping with Winstanleys"

How bad is this and the website is still advertising the bike as 2-7 days, why don't they just tell you that they cannot get it or it will take 4 weeks or 6 or 8 straight off rather than stringing you along.

The annoying thing is a bought this for my child's birthday, and I managed to give her a helmet without the bike.....how do you keep disappointing the child......

I have already told my child to cancel but she is fixed on the bike, I even offered to spend more cash and influence her to go to evans at Gatwick where I can purchase straight away espically on the 16th January I ordered a bike for my other daughter and it arrived within 3 days, in perfet condition and no hassle.........

So has anyone else had the problem, will I get my order ? Is it a false promise where you get sucked into buying another bike due to the time frame......?

My advice so far is to anyone wanting to purchase a bike from Winstanleybikes then I would look elsewhere...............Evans, Chainreaction and JEJAMES have always delivered on time and to the timescale weather it was 5 weeks or 1 day.......

Regards Barry

They are well known for messing people around. I have first hand experience with them promising christmas delivery over the phone in early december. Que me on christmas eve having to go to halfords to get my dad a boardman roadie because the bike I ordered never came.
Phone them and ask for a refund immediately. Go to a reputable retailer who has actual stock. They are a complete joke, I have no idea how they are still in business.
  • erm... i ordered on 10th november and i'm still waiting.
i've been given the 11th Feb now. If it doesn't come i'm contacting trading standards.

I emailed them today threatening the same thing, considering that they have told me 11th Feb now and the bike is still being advertised as 2-7 days.

Is this not misleading to the customer.....all we want is the truth so we can move on...

Try another Raleigh stockist and ask them to check the stock levels on the model you have ordered.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

yea, i'll never buy from losestanleys again.
  • Why don't you just cancel the order and buy from somewhere else? If enough people did this, they will be forced to either get their act together or go under, both of which will be doing us a favour.

They owe me a discounted 2009 frame (due to the problems they've given me, as the 2008 frame went discontinued 4 weeks after I ordered it) which would cost an extra £70-£80 elsewhere which I can't afford.

Levers are used to undo BBs etc, not to tighten

  • If anyone has problems with wistanleys, go directly to trading standards, it's the only way to deal with this shocking level of incompitance and poor customer service,

You could easily have saved up an extra 70-80 quid by now. It is disappointing to be tempted in this way and then not realise the final goal, but these things happen.

i'd like you to explain how i'd do that.

    Buy a cheaper bike then

It wouldn't have been too hard to save up that small amount but when they said they'd give you the newer more expensive frame I see why you wouldn't bother. Though CRC is selling them for £229 which is only £50 more.

CRC has those frames in stock now so winstanley should as well as it means the ns distributor should have sent them out to all stores with them on order (i.e yours) I'd be demanding my frame now as they have kept you hanging for too long.

Ben, I've always found Theresa to be really helpful. 'The squeaky cog gets oiled first' and all that...

Just had an email back from Theresa and she's contacted the suppliers (Hotlines) who have said Winstanleys should hopefully get my frame by the end of the week (depends when hotline actually dispatch it to them) and they'll send it on asap :)

Might be worth contacting Hotlines and see if the story Winstanleys is telling tallies with Hotlines' story.

  • Dealt with them once and NEVER again! I ordered some Bomber Forks WITHOUT remote lock and guess what? Turned up with Remote Lock, sent them back and Guess what ?Sent the exact same forks back again (I could tell as it was my packinging) so they obviously did'nt even open them. 3rd time lucky though! Also ordered a front mech at the same time and it never turned up, once I spoke to them they then told me they no longer stock that model - even though it was on their website and they did'nt bother to contact me.... Merlin are good though. :x :x
  • They've got 2008 Norco Faze 2 in stock, every size apparently for £1049.99 compared to £1439 at awcycles. That seems a really good deal and I must say I'm tempted, but given their reputation I'd rather go elsewhere. Don't know what to do!
I also fancy a 2006 Giant Trance 2 from paulscycles at £831.36, what would you guys go for?

If they have it in stock you will get it, if it says ANYTHING else then don't bother. Have always received everything I've ordered from them by sticking to this rule.
  • Recieved Email yesterday once again "suppliers" and further delay taking it to the 17th Feb......

Yes I have cancelled and gone elsewhere.....to be honest I would have gone sometime ago except for my daughter wanting to hang it out.

Anyway I will join the long list and not use them again
  • Posted this in the roadie forum, but thought I'd drop my experience here aswell..

Thought I'd add a little note to this thread..

I tried to order a 2008 model Giro Hex from them and was advised they couldnt get them from the suppliers as they were discontinued. Nothing overly shocking about that, but I wonder whether they should even really be including them in their online catalogue. Granted, its advertised as not in stock and available to order in 2-7 days but it still seems misleading to me - they must know there is no way to get these helmets, but still advertise them. Maybe a way to draw in potential customers to sign up, perhaps..
    Do it.

On the flip side, I ordered a Cove Stiffee frame from them (£50-100 cheaper than everywhere else), that had to be ordered in from the supplier and I had no problems, came quickly and as expected, keeping me updated the whole way through.

winstanleys are always on here for one reason or another, personally i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. they're still advertising the slx chainset at £69 which isn't available at that price. we've got to stop these internet frauds!!

    kev
