Fatality on A4 Cycle Lane

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but I read today the sad story about a cyclist, Michael Fletcher, killed before Christmas on a cycle lane on the A4 in London
Two things that hit home - the guy was an experienced cyclist, and the accident happened on a cycle lane, which highlights the hazards of some of these facilities.
There is an online petition were you can press for better cycling facilities on the A4 in memory of Michael, but do take it as an opportunity for those of you who use cycle lanes (and I include myself) to reflect and take care out there.

Good that they have decided to do some improvements. And its nice to see that the experts were shocked.
Hope things improve0 -

indeed it's a horrible bit of road around there, though to be honest most cycle lanes like that ie next to a urban freeway? are risky as there are so many junctions and as your on the pavement cars don't notice as they are thinking about the road...0 -
Good to see that something positive may come from this terrible accident.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Good that something is being done, but I can't help feeling that the positioning of the request for information sign right across the path is indicative of yet further misunderstanding of the cyclists needs and status

It appears to be attached to the pole in the centre of the cycle path....'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0 -
I noticed that the driver of the car, was charged with causing death by careless driving:
