Does anyone know if there is a HMRC limit, or if once you've paid off the first one you can go on to another..?

I've had a new one the last 2 years no problems - in fact I brought 2 bikes with my first voucher (not sure if that is strictly allowed).

  • think it depends on the scheme, i can get one every year from any bike shop up to £2700. some are halfords only
  • As the scheme requires you to use the bike(s) as part of your commute you can easily get two. One from home to local train/bus station where you leave bike 1. Bike 2 is then collected at the other end of bus/train journey.

I suppose if you can justify a rather complicated sequence of multiple such journeys you could reasonably apply for more than 2 bikes.

Now the question I always find interesting is what actual constitutes 'part of a commute' ?

You can also apply for two bikes if your route is likely to change by season i.e. roads in winter - off-road summer.
As long as you legitimally use your bike(s) mainly for commuting (as we all do of course!!) then seasonal change or split journeys are perfectly acceptable.

£1k is only the limit of the company doesn't hold a Credit Consumer Licence - luckily my employer does :D
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • My employer has a credit licence so we go up to £1500 - but they pocket the VAT to "cover the costs of administering the scheme"

Well, that is just crooked in my view, so they are saying it costs over £200 to administer? Plus they are getting a saving of £2180 on NI. If my employers did that they would have made £80,000 in "administration costs" with the numbers that have taken up the scheme, that would have paid for 2.5 full time admin staff to run it over the 2 years. They are crooks!!!
  • hi just outta interest how much is my work getting from me buying a £900 bike on the scheme then? its over 18 mths if that helps, and only paid 3 mths so far but allready have plans for my next one :D
