How much is your car insurance?

Just been looking around as I'm half considering buying my own car and the cheapest I can find is £950pa for a 1.2 Renault Clio Dynamique, with 0 years NCB. Going to try Direct Line next as I will have 1 year no claims due to being a named driver on my Dad's car. Saxo VTRs are out of the picture after seeing some quotes

And so they should be. It's hard to find an unmolested one these days. They're all chavved up with halfords universal fit jap cans and cheapo ripspeed wheels
As for your insurance, I'm guessing you're quite young, so start small to keep the price down, and direct line probably won't insure you if you're under 21. I'm paying roughly £650 fully comp for 206 gti 2.0, and I'm 26 with 1 year no claims.
  • Insurance is a joke isn't it. I'm paying about £1000 a year fully comp for an Alfa 147 1.6 Twin Spark. I have 1 years NCB, no accidents, and I'm 24.

    £320 fully comp - Saxo 1.1, with 1 years NCB. (im 23).

  • Sorry if this sound like sour grapes, but I've paid 1000s over the years, on 20 years of running Golf GTIs. It starts to get manageable when you get to 40 with a good NCB, also 'cos you tend to have bit more disp. income. But then you have kids who want to drive and my 2nd, who is 17 is costing me £82 per month on his Mum's 1.2 Polo and that was the most competive with D.Line.
Take solace from the fact that biking is cheap!
Oh, and don't think that Saga insurancde is cheap when you are in your 50s - they've done nowt for me.
  • Renault Sport, Clio 172. £420 with full breakdown cover
I suppose getting a bit older has its uses

Blitz - when did you do your IAM test?

Did mine ten years ago! They asked me to be a trustee too. Would have been up for it but too many meetings in London - bit of a trek!
  • £278 for a 05 Skoda Fabia vRS with all mods declared on 7 years NCD and 1 named driver.

Picked up an SP30 a month after getting the car so prob a few quid more this year. Insurance generally seems more expensive this year too :(
