Cycling with arthritis

Hello
I hope I've put this in the right forum. My wife has arthritis in her hands, which has resulted ina severe loss of strength and dexterity. She would like to start cycling again, on a small scale.
The main problem we can foresee, is that she is unable to pull a brake lever (which is obviously a fundamental flaw ).
Years ago, when I was younger, BMX bikes could have a drum brake, which was activated by the pedal. I'm not saying this is the best option, but I wondered if anyone knew of any gadgets/brake levers that could be used in this situation? Or perhaps someone else out there has a similar problem?
Many thanks
Dave

You can get rear wheeels with coaster brakes, operated by backpedalling.
They take a bit of getting used to, but would be ideal for your wife. An alternative for the front wheel would be something like a Magura hydraulic brake, needing less effort, I suspect.Organising the Bradford Kids Saturday Bike Club at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre since 1998

Thank you, that was pretty much the think I was thinking of, but couldn't think of what it was called.0
