As the thread says, This year truvativ rooled out a new crank/ gear system that almost eliminates chain suck amongst other mannerisms for all mountain and free ride forms but what is the possibilities of inventing a HammerSchmidt type gear for cross country? ie a 3 speed system that doesn't need a front mech to operate?

good point but another manufacturor will find a way im sure
  • Well, This wouldn't be a perfect solution; but some friends and I reckoned some time ago that if you fitted an 11 speed campagnolo rear mech and cassette with the AM Hammerschmidt, that it would make a decent cross anyway, as it's fairly rare to find situations in which granny gear is preferable to hammering it up in a moderate gear and recovering on the decent.

Of course we don't have £800 quid to test our theory; but if anyone with a road bike, a hammerschmidt, and a cross country frame handy wants to come back to us we'd be interested.

Got to admit I'm intrigued by the possibility of a 2 - speed Hammerschmidt and a 14 - speed Rohlhoff hub gear...

  • I think something will happen. Lets face it, when we were plodding around on 15 gears nobody thought we'd get to 24, let alone 27 or 30. As technology improves, anything is possible.
