Excellent news!

I went to see the friendly ankle doctor this morning, and extensive testing has revealed that I now have an intact achilles tendon!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! :D:D:D

This means that I can ditch the bicentennial boot, replacing it with an achilles support thing, and start doing some very (he did say very) light exercise again! When I asked if he could be more specific I was told swimming, very gentle cross-trainer, and.... wait for it... very, very gentle exercise bike!

When I asked him if I could use the real bike very, very gently he said..... SOON!

I am a very happy bunny.

Think Jen's place at Ashdown still up for grabs
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome
  • Sorted. Go with swimming worked wonders when I broke my foot and had to have my leg in plaster.

    Congratulations

Great news ...just out of interest - where are you going to begin your gentle cycling?
  • Go with swimming

Bad call, mate. L_i_t can't swim (despite trying to learn for years) and had a bad experience with water a a child. She doesn't like to talk about it. So it's important that others do the talking for her. :D:D:D

Good news indeed on the ankle though. Just remember. Gently means g-e-n-t-l-y. It doesn't mean "anything below the level of force required to rupture it again". Does it?
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

LiT: DO NOT get out of the saddle and go for it - the sudden strain will cost you.

Good news LiTs, just be sensible about getting back on the bike.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

LiT, on the roadie to recovery.
Today is a good day to ride
  • Thanks! :D

I am really looking forward to getting back on the bike... Yes yes, blah blah gently blah.

Seriously though, I have no intention of doing anything which might land me back in plaster.

By pushing a bigger gear than Chris Hoy would contemplate.

Great news on the recovery. Take it easy and don't do something stupid like I did when I broke my toe protecting my ACL surgery

Even if you can't swim, being in the water really helps with tendon problems in the ankles.

A bit of 'jogging' in the shallow end will look stupid but will really help.

Call me a heretic, but might I suggest getting some gears (say 20 of them) for the short term until the danger passes?
