Have just got rid of bronchitis taken nearly four weeks. How long would you leave it to get back on the bike, as I don't want to go backwards as I was nearly on a hospital bed.
The doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now

Sorry to hear about the bronchitus. Listen to your body and be truthful with yourself is the best advice I can give. You know when you are not 100% but most people tend to push it anyway.

Nice and misty out there today not ideal for lung problems!

I had pneumonia in October/November (off work for five weeks) and I got back on the bike last Monday. Before I got back on the bike I (like you I guess) did a lot of research into what other people have done post-recovery but ultimately it was down to how I felt. I had to be careful about the cold air - being off the bike and being ill had affected my stamina so I was gulping in more air. But it's worked-out fine and I am absolutley loving being back on the bike. :D

glad you're feeling better. just take it easy. dont expect to be able to do what you could pre-bronchitis. pick a mild and calm day to start out, and just do what you comfortably do. build it up gradually and you'll be back to normal pretty quickly

Hey woody glad you've recovered. I've had bronchitis a few times and it's nasty.

As others have said, listen to your body regarding exercise. If you feel like riding then go for it, but your lungs will likely still be a bit fragile and not up to their normal exertion levels so take it easy and stop if you find your breathing becoming strained. See how you feel after another week, but I'd guess it'd be a couple of weeks more before you're feeling 100%.
Today is a good day to ride
  • Thank you all for the advice. I think I will play itself and just go the gym instead of doing the both. At least its warm in the gym.

    Thanks for the well wish's

    Keep Well
