Hi,

Me and my mate are off for some MTBing action in Afan Forest in June and we're looking for somewhere to stay.

Anyone got any recommendations for any B and Bs or the like nearby?

Cheers.

Lovely people, tell them Jamie sent you.
  • 10 of us went last weekend and stayed at the afan cottage next to the jersey arms. nice clean place, next to a pub and the crazy priced £2 meal place down the road :D

    We stayed here:

    http://www.brynteghouse.com/rosecottage.html

Fully catered for MTB'ers as they had a stack of MTB magazines and DVD to go through when chilling, largescale maps of the area, SMACK BANG between Afan and Glyncorrwg center's and about 2 mins walk from the pub ( a converted railway station)

Its right by the river too, great location to pick up the trails!

    It also has this:>

Secure bike storage and wash down facilities at the back!!

How did you find the atmosphere in that converted pub?

As I walked in with a few mates last year a load of the locals were going "look English!" before we walked in, and they took an awful long time to serve us at the bar!

(I'm actually Welsh myself, but from North East Wales, think quite a few are inbred in that valley and don't like outsiders)

To be honest, everyone was really nice and we got served BEFORE the locals!.

There is a bit of staring going on, but if your not a regular, you get that in most pubs anywhere.

We got chatting to the landlord (I think) straight away and warned him that we would be here daily for booze and some grub, so from then on he instantly looked after us!

I can see what you mean about the "locals" nature though, its a small village lifestyle, everyone knows each other and it is a bit like walking into someone elses house - but with a bit of banter and friendlyness it was all good.

    Dont be put off!

I live in Cardiff so no need to stay down there, but this place is great

  • Hi

Try the Bryn Bettws Log Cabins. It's at the top of the 'Final Descent' on 'The Wall' trail.
Start the day with a nice bit of downhill. :D

Another vote for Bryn Teg House! I found the place brilliant, had a couple of great nights in the pub playing pool against the locals and had no problems getting served...... they even had a go at me for not staying til closing time!
