  • I was there last year. I was the sunburnt baldy guy with the worlds biggest hangover after the Caleigh in the town centre on the Sat evening.
On the way back to the B&B, at around 2 in the morning, we passed a house that had a trampoline in the front garden, guess what happened next?
Yip, police car pulled up to reprimand 6 grown men, all approaching 40, bouncing around like kids on Red Bull.
    I ran away.

    It was fantastic.

It's a World Cup round BTW, not the World Champs - the World Champs is in Canberra this year...

Did you go last year as a bloke from edin offered me the same out of his camelbak we were in the main stand? and he did the same the next day as well.
or do all scots welcome us taffs with a wee swally
i will be there again from wales 8 1/2 hour drive but worth every minute
hope the midges remember me as the wee bast--ds were pleased to see me last year!!!!!!!!!
and i can,t wait to see them again after 12 months i bet they,ve grown
Its all up hill down here
  • By the way, the old wives tale about SAS soldiers using Avon 'Skin So Soft' to keep the midges at bay is a right load of old bollocks, but I do have beautiful soft hands now.

  • Aye, I remember those days of non-stop booze, every Whiskey from the top shelf at the Alexandra in the 1st year of the Worlds and not seeing any of the biking. Having a nice civilised game of footy with the Scots out on the green in the town centre, happy days. Can't remember the score, just feet flying everywhere, but good fun without doubt. Not the same since Mctavish night club :D got burnt to the ground......
  • i was there, its unlikeley it was me offering the buckfast i tend not to share, unless you're a very pretty lady, or i thought you were at the time. everyone should drink buckfast at fort bill, its ace

hydration packs, best invention since the pint glass
i spent all me money on whisky and beer!!!
  • Buckfast is horrendous, it's like drinking watered down cough syrup, and it has roughly the same effect.

Also avoid the elderflower beer in the Grog And Gruel pub in Fort William's High Street. It tastes like lager that's had a magic tree air freshener soaking in it.

Really tempted to head up for a long weekend for the Worlds.

Any recommendations on places to stay [hotels with car park]??
  • Anywhere bar the Nevis Bank Hotel.

Without doubt the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

I asked the girl at reception "Can I get the clothes iron please?"
Blank look followed by "I'm sorry, we do not have zis iron that you speak of."

My bedroom had a shower/toilet in a cubicle and a sink next to the bed. There's a sign on the sink that says "In order to have a hot shower, first run the hot tap on the sink, then when water is hot, turn on shower."

The place was an absolute toilet.

I remember going to Ft William back in 1995ish (1994?) to compete in my first and last ever downhill race. It was a blast and made a lot of friends there that year, we started to see the same people at other events over the years (Malverns, NPS etc) and the nicknames we gave each other at Ft Bill seemed to stick.
Sadly, I've lost touch with them over the years. I'm seriously considering going up this year.

    Yep, I'm going, (hopefully)

I have been to every one at FW, apart from the very first one. Last year was a bit of a hot one, both ended up a little sunburnt.....

Had some great times up there and met some great people too....
