i am going to cycle britain next year and i am not sure on what bike to get ive got around £1,200 to spend. ive been looking around and specialised tricross looks like the best option. Any recomendations on what bike i should buy.

I have seen forum posts which say the tricross is not good at carrying luggage.

If you are touring round Britain carrying camping gear then you may be better looking at other bikes.

The latest Cycling Plus has reviews of long distance touring bikes and recommends 2 in your price range :-
    Pearson Compass £1299
    Thorn Sherpa £1069.95

thanks. they look good. i was thinking of traveling light without tent or luggge and buying what i need on route. is this a bad idea and would i still need a touring bike?
  • If you're thinking about light touring, I'd go for a steel framed audax bike as they're fast and comfortable over distance. A couple of examples in your price range:

Byer Cycles do a nice Aravis 631 framed bike: http://www.byercycles.co.uk/bikeprice%20%2001-%2001-%2008/09R1008.html

    Thorn Audax Mk3: http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/audaxmk3.html
