Just bought a jumbo size lizard skin chainstay guard for my alu framed bike. It's wide enough to wrap round the chainstay, though needs strecthed a bit to do so. The problem is that the gear cable boss means that the guard goes so far towards the bottom bracket that it can't fit. Obvious solution is to trim it to a length thaht will fit, or would this start fraying and would I be better to cut a hole in it to acommodate the gear cable boss?

  • Save yourself some money pal and use a old innertube. cut it down the middle the cut to appropriot lenght(remember it does stretch) wrap it around your chainstay and tiewrap in place. Its cheaper and it quitens your chain slap down.
  • I would have thought a hole would be better and would look nicer but if it is the same material as the LS fork boots (velcro strips with a foamy material) then it cuts very easily with some scissors. Just make sure it looks neat!

I've done the hole in the middle thing too. Put it on and feel for the cable stop and make a slit at each end of the cable stop, remove and trom then replace. If the cable stop is slotted then you don't need to undo the cable from the mech.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I did the same, worked a charm. Though on the new frame, I have an old inner tube, which looks decent when done right and, I think, may actually work better!
