HI there, i'll post this here as i am a begginer.

I have a saracen mantra one which i've started riding on.However,on fast downhill sections (bumpy) i've been losing the chain.I've tried to retension the rear derailleur but no joy.Can i put this down to low end parts? Any tips?

    Nope it is life.

a chain that is bouncing about will come off.

More so if the chain is at an extream of the crankset or the cassette.

if it is in the middle then there is less chance of losing it.

Also pedalling helps keep it on.

  • Sure, makes sense.I do try to keep it on the middle front and somewhere in the middle on the back. It's usually only the steep, long rocky sections so it'll be a while till i'm pedalling those!
    Thanks for your help.

where is the chain coming off? front? back? into the spokes or off the smallest cog?

you may need to adjust the derailer adjuster screws if it's dropping of either end of the cassette.

on steep downhill section, put it in third (outer largest chainring on the front) and no more than 5th on the back. this will keep the chain tension tight and give you something to pedal against if you need to.
