just joined recently so i thought i would say hello.
i recently decided to get the old bike out of the shed to help me lose some wait and get fit after giving up smoking. the cheap thing soon broke so afetr reading a lot about different bikes i decided to buy a trek 3900. seems to be a good choice for my limited budget and the fact i will mainly be on cycle paths and gentle stuff, and got myself a helmet too.
does anyone here that has a trek 3900 or is familiar with have suggestions on what they would look to upgrade on it first? my budget is limited and it will be a case of a bit at a time.
i was thinking of changing to straight bars but purely for vanity! any suggestions?
i look forward to spending some time here
cheers,
Brett

Hi and welcome,
Only upgrade as you need! Tyres from the off are worthwhile doing as originals can be heavy and not very grippy. But apart from that (and tailoring contact points for fit), I'd only upgrade when parts wear out or you have had the bike long enough to see where gains can be made.0 -
thanks. i did notice it sliding a bit in the mud.
any tyres you would recommend? my main surface (at the moment anyway) is light gravel, a bit of tarmac with the odd bit of mud thrown in. so didnt want anything to knobbly for my needs!!
btw you a footie fan by any chance?0 -

Have a look at Continental Mountain Kings. The Pro versions cost more, but rally are worth it.
