Had a quick spin on an 8500 last year. It was OK in a hardcore-XC kindof way but not exactly 'fun'. Great spec and everything if that's the kind of bike you're looking for.

    Stumpjumper Comp?
Now has the new Elixir brakes too.
  • if i had that sort of money to spend, i'd look closely at a Lapierre Pro Race 300 2009 which looks great imo :)

For a full on bargain if your not bothered about looking uncool the decathlon rockrider 8(?)
saw it on the site the other day, spec is rediculous for the money you even get another set of 700c wheels for commuting/training, quality!

    Voodoo Bizango - 2014 - Dead - Hit by a car
    Vitus Sentier VRS - 2017
  • Or get a Boardman Pro for £1000,with SRAM XO,X9,Truvativ stylo cranks,Avid Elixir carbon brakes,Ritchey WCS,Reba Race forks.Weighs 24lb,lovely looking frame on the new model, and makes the Trek look very overpriced.

You could spend your £300 change on some wheels and make it even lighter

    2016 Boardman Pro 29er

The spec of the RR 8 is very good. I took the liberty of working out the value of the shifters/mechs/breaks etc etc. It came to about £1500 on CRC including discount!!

It has Crossmax SLR's... and at £1400 on the site is a real bargain.

  • I borught my 2009 Trek 8500 from pedalon (they do intrest free) about 2 weeks ago and i absolutly love it! The spec compared to other bikes i was looking like giants and gary fishers was alot better.

I find the ride very precise and agile, and the weight of the bike is brilliant. Full shimano XT set to is very nice.

Scott Scale 35 - carbon frame for £1350 - bargain, plus reba's and decent shimano running gear. That'd be my choice, but i'm biased
