Has anyone experience of flying to Cyprus with a bike in a bag on British Airways or Cyprus Airways?

I will be retiring there in the autumn, but going for 8 weeks in the spring and would like to take an old bike.

I have a large 531 Reynolds steel light tourer. Big frame - I'm 6ft3in tall. Would they accept a home made "big bag" ? The bike will not be coming back.

Any tips or general advice?

sorry no experience of flying to Cyprus, but did take a bike on a one way trip to Spain with easyJet. I used an old bike box from LBS, dismantled the bike as little as possible, wheels out, bars rotated, pedals off. Used plumbers pipe lagging for added protection and wrapped rear mech in bubble wrap.
Arrived at destination, reassembled bike, recycled cardboard box tossed the rest.

Check the BA web site for bike box / bag dimensions and as long as you are within these you should be okay.
