I have some brakes that I believe are post mount with 160mm rotors. I need to use the adapter to allow them to bolt to my IS mount forks.

Am I right in thinking that the adapter will bring the disc size required up from 160mm to 180mm.

I feel sure thati've read a post from Nick or SS saying something like this in a post somewhere but I can't find it now. Just need to check whether i'm right or wrong.

I'm probably wrong :D

I'm slightly confused with your question
Yes, but in your case no. Adapters are used to mount the calliper at the correct distance from the frame/fork to match the size of the disc and to suit the frame/fork design. I'm assuming the adapter you mentioned is for 160mm and for your fork, so no your adapter will not bring the disc size up to 180mm...cos it's for 160mm rotors...

    Cheers.
Without having had the chance to match them up with the bike yet I assumed that the adaper would move the caliper away from the fork giving it more clearance and requiring a bigger disk.

I'll take a proper look tonight and try not to assume anything in future :D

It may well do, depending on what size the adaptor it is.

    Post mount is 160mm

    IS is 160mm
you can get adaptors for what ever size you want.

yes there are Post to IS adaptors for 160mm discs.

    Nice one, Thanks Nick.
I think this is just one of those times where i've read something a while ago and then imagined that it said something completely different. I think the post I was thinking about actually said that moving a brake from the rear to the front needed the extra 20mm.

I'll know for certain either way when I get home and check it out properly. It was just playing on my mind.

Thanks, both of you, for the help.

But the easiest adaptor to find will take it to a 180(5) disc. the front 160 are a pain to get.

I just had a look and these are definately a 160 IS mount. I'll buy a 180 and a disc to go with it and since my other wheels are 180 it should make wheel swapping a bit easier.
